Abstract

In the present study, nine heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Al, Zn, Ni and Pb) were seasonally monitored through the analysis of large number of water samples collected from the River Nile in the Greater Cairo region during the period 2012 to 2013. The samples were collected from eight stations distributed in the area covering the distance from El Roda Island to El-Kanater El-khayria. Heavy metals were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy (ICP/OES). Results for their levels in water were compared with national and international water quality guidelines, and they proved to be within the permissible limits.
